New Release – Nothing to Lose by Shadow of Light feat. Charlie Sanderson and JMac

Raised in Wolverhampton (UK), Shadow of Light was part of the emerging UK Garage scene in the late 90s. He was a DJ on 106.3 Frontline FM, and the passion for the genre has never faded. Emersed by UK Garage, hip hop and jungle from an early age, Shadow of Light’s productions have echoes of nostalgic inspirations, but he gives them a fresh, vibesy feel. His passion for collaborating can be seen as he has worked with numerous artists including Genesis Elijah, Jack Light, RedRum Music, Tee Total, Serena Dench, Spitholic, Luna Ase and with many more collaborations in the making, it’s an exciting time to be part of his journey.

His new single ‘Nothing to Lose’ featuring Charlie Sanderson and JMac will be out 25th November. A pre-save is available here.

When did you write it?

“I actually made this track as a demo way back at the start of the year. I’d not long locked Charlie in for ‘All Night’ with Spitholic – our first release of the year – and I knew I wanted to strike while the iron was hot and get him on a UKG track. He’s got such a cool, soulful voice and so I made this track with him in mind. We had a demo working within a few days so we both knew we were on to something but we both had other releases lined up so it took a back seat. A few months later Charlie told me he’d performed with JMac, who wanted to jump on a collab with him, so it made sense to get him on ‘Nothing to Lose’. JMac brings a freshness to the track and his energy and lyrical content fit perfectly. So what was pretty much my first production of the year is actually my last UKG release of the year.”

How would you describe ‘Nothing to Lose’?

“It is a good vibes only UK Garage two stepper that has a range of bouncy melodies and a bumpy bassline. It’s my homage to a classic track from the 90s ‘My Inspiration’ by TJ Cases. Every time I heard that track, or played it on the radio it just made me feel so good, and I wanted ‘Nothing to Lose’ to have that same warm feeling. Add Charlie’s super dope vocals and uplifting narrative alongside JMac’s fresh verse and I truly believe we’ve made a track that can only make you feel you’re in a good place.”

What are you hoping to achieve with this release?

“I feel this is a difficult question because it would be awesome for it to get noticed, be streamed a lot and get loads of exposure, and of course this is the hope with every release, but we all know how difficult it is to stand out in today’s climate of releasing music. That being said, with every release I normally get new contacts, or pick up a new artist who wants to collab on a track, or I get asked to do a remix for a different release, and that ultimately is a massive win because it keeps me on the road of creating and releasing music in the future!”
