Vision. Passion. Melody. Music as a way of life. This is the world of Jay Tennant, an enigmatic singer-songwriter from the English heartlands. Walking the tightrope between the bleak and the beautiful, Jay Tennant wraps heart-tugging existential drama into thrilling widescreen epics with sky-scraping choruses. Exhilarating recent singles ‘Spectre’ and ‘Star City Serenade’ are a case in point and his upcoming single ‘Journey Into The Night’ is a stadium-sized anthem with a solid-gold chorus.

What inspired you to write this song?

“This song is part of a wider concept album, my third solo album, which will be released in 2022. The whole album is a kind of passionate romantic journey, from falling for someone through various stages of love, lust, obsession, loss, grief and the realisation that, even if it’s one-sided, love and intense feelings can remain for a long time afterwards.”

Do the lyrics have a special meaning to you?

“With all of the songs I’ve written for this new album over the past couple of years, I’ve tried to make the lyrics intriguing and also a bit playful. ‘Journey Into The Night’ is a case in point. There’s a heart-on-your-sleeve emotional honesty to it but also some suggestive imagery in there. It’s special to me because I think it does what I set out to achieve and communicate – it’s a different kind of love song – devoted but also intense and playful.”

What are you hoping to achieve with this release?

“I’d really like it to kickstart things for me a bit more. I feel like I’ve released a string of strong singles now but I haven’t been able to break through to a wider audience like some other bands and artists seem to be doing lately. I really hope ‘Journey Into The Night’ can start the ball rolling for me in that respect.”

‘Journey Into The Night’ will be out tomorrow, Friday 22nd October. You can pre-save here.
