New Release – Ain’t No Place To Hide by Craig Gould

September 15th will see the release of Craig Gould’s debut single ‘Ain’t No Place To Hide’ – a spellbinding and virtuous Folk/Americana anthem that is guaranteed to have you singing along! Lyrically challenging societies acceptance with the status quo, ‘Ain’t No Place To Hide’ is an inspirationally rich and distinct singalong tale that will leave you with your fist in the air and a tear in your eye.

All of the profits from this release will be donated to CALM – Campaign Against Living Miserably, a charity that Craig is very proud to be working in partnership with. The song will be available in digital format for streaming and purchase from all reputable online music sources. A pre-save can be found here.

What inspired you to write this song?

“I wanted my debut single to reflect who I am as a person, my journey and my beliefs. I’ve been through some very difficult times with my mental health, and I’ve come through them stronger. I had to reinvent myself to do that, and along with that came a different way of viewing the world. This song reflects on my old life, and celebrates a rebirth, whilst also carrying a call to arms. I feel so passionate about the lack of responsibility people can take towards making the world a better place, and how dismissive people can be about helping other people in need. It upsets me, and angers me. I had to generate that into song, and here we are.”

What are you hoping to achieve with this release?

“I spent years trying to get myself better after a severe mental breakdown. I was fortunate enough to have private healthcare access at the time, and had the support of a beautifully patient and loving wife, compassionate parents and loving friends. Along with medication, hard work and self care, they helped me get through it, but not everyone gets that help. Those who don’t have that support might not make it, and won’t be around. I had to try to do something to change that, so I set up a partnership with the UK Mental Health Charity CALM – Campaign Against Living Miserably – where I pledged to donate all of the profits from my first three singles, and my debut album (Spring 2022) to them.”

“I wanted to use the songs born from illness and recovery to help offer support to those who needed it most. CALM really are a great charity. They have phone lines open every day from 5pm – Midnight to allow those who are in need an outlet to talk to someone, to help them and pass on advice. They literally can make the difference to help keep someone in this world. If we can raise more awareness and funds with this release, then we are doing something right.”

Where was it recorded and mixed?

“Due to the pandemic, I arranged to record as much as I could remotely and have the artists send me their tracks, but most of it was recorded in my home. I’m lucky to have a wonderful Universal Apollo audio interface, and with a couple of valve condenser mics, I’ve been able to get some amazing results coming through. The vocals, guitars, mandolin, double bass and percussion were all recorded at my home, and the piano was recorded in Liverpool by the beautiful and wonderful Anna Corcoran. Chris Baldwin and Adriana Spina also recorded their beautiful backing vocals in Burton on Trent and (somewhere in) Scotland respectively.”

“We used some brilliant creative licence too when putting the record together. The kick drum is actually a wooden spoon hitting a cardboard box, and a whistle sound is my old Acne Thunderer whistle that I used to use when dispatching trains on the railway! The tracks were then sent to the amazing Miles Myerscough-Harris, who works from “Under The Apple Tree” Studios in Oxfordshire, to receive his most wonderful treatment. The recording is full of personality and warmth.”
