New Release – A Little Joy by Charu Suri

Charu Suri is the first female Indian American jazz composer to premier work at Carnegie Hall. She has been playing the piano since the age of five and performing since the age of nine. Charu released her song ‘A Little Joy‘ on today. The video of the song is available on YouTube. Here’s what Charu Suri had to say about her new release:

“I would describe it as a classic jazz trio with vocals, inspired by the great standards of Vince Guaraldi and Bill Evans. For this song, I draw on the vocal talents of my longtime singer, Danielle Erin Rhodes, and the bass talents of Justin Lee, the drumming talents of Jay O’Brien. All of them have been with me since the very beginning of my band.”

“The pandemic really got to me (as well as everyone, I’m sure), and I wanted to write a tune that could become a jazz standard (the nerve of me!). But I have been listening to classics like ‘Have yourself a merry little Christmas’ and ‘Christmas Time is Here’ by Vince Guaraldi ever since I was a kid, and I thought, here’s the chance to write a really inspired tune.”

“I hope to bring joy and hope to many people during the holiday and winter season, particularly those affected by the pandemic.”
